Indian Creek relishing underdog role in claiming first regional title in 16 years — Wheaton Schools news

Indian Creek volleyball coach Matt Orstead keeps preaching one fact to his team: Everybody loves an underdog. The Timberwolves won five games last year and started this year 2-6. They were the No. 7 seed in Sub-Sectional B of the Class 1A Rockford Christian Sectional. When they beat No. 2 Trinity Oaks Christian in a Hiawatha regional semifinal last week, 25-17, 25-15, it was the start of their underdog story. When they claimed their first regional title in 16 years with a 25-19, 26-14 win over No. 6 South Beloit, the story kept rolling along. On Tuesday, it can reach new heights when Indian Creek (18-18) faces No. 1 Stockton (33-2), one of the top-ranked teams in Class 1A.“It’s definitely insane,” senior setter Ally Keilman said. “Playing last year, we struggled a lot. We don’t have a very tall group of girls, or a very well-equipped group. ... But going in and playing this year, none of us had high expectations. So being able to win it, it’s insane.”The Timberwolves had their worst season
